What the 3 layer and 4 layer construction does
A sintered filter is a stack of SS316L woven mesh layers diffusion bonded under heat and pressure into a single rigid sheet, then machine welded into the finished element. The layers each have a job:
- Layer 1 — protective mesh. Coarse SS316L mesh that shields the filter layer from mechanical damage during handling, cleaning and back-flushing.
- Layer 2 — filter mesh. The rated filtration layer. Micron rating is selected to your process spec — typically 5 to 200 micron for pharma duty.
- Layer 3 — support mesh. Carries the differential pressure across the element so the filter layer keeps its rating under load.
- Layer 4 — reinforcement (4-layer only). Additional heavy support mesh for high differential pressure, steam-in-place and repeated CIP/SIP cycles.
